The Liverpool Weaving Company was founded by Kirsty Jean Leadbetter in 2018, to facilitate her passion for woven textiles in the city she was raised in and loves. This design studio is Liverpool's very first and only micro mill, located in the Baltic Triangle, offering bespoke artisan cloth, design consultancy and tuition. Kirsty works with a plethora of clients, from local alpaca farmers to haute couture brands.
Kirsty Jean has eleven years weaving experience, such co-managing a weave studio in the Shetland Islands, a place she still draws much inspiration from.
As well as weaving commissions, Kirsty also runs workshops with the aim of popularising weaving as a hobby and igniting a wider interest for this niche craft. Workshops are available privately, in small groups or in formal education environments such as primary schools and universities.
During these workshops, Kirsty will demonstrate thread by thread how to set up an Ashford or frame loom, how to accomplish different woven techniques and answer any creative questions you may have. See our Weaving Workshop tab for classes in your area or drop us an email.
Traceability, sustainability and durability are core values of The Liverpool Weaving Company. We believe in a holistic approach to design, whereby each handwoven piece of textile is developed, sampled and woven on our looms in Merseyside. Our approach is simple: good design and durably made, for you to use daily for decades.
Our micro mill is well established to produce small to medium scale sampling and hand weaving; for larger scale and bulk production we can partner with a Lancashire mill to meet demand.
